Lowell and Barbara Wilson along with Rich and Cassy Benson spoke easily, sincerely and well. I know you felt as proud of them as I did!

Lowell reminded us of how the church started with five people meeting in a living room. They found a place to gather on Sundays at the Presbyterian Camp and Conference Ground. A small room packed with desks, tools, and even coffee pots served as a Sunday school room. The fellowship grew and passed all the requirements to become an official church of the Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A.). The warm, friendly spirit of those early days still pervades today.

Barbara shared her passion for children. She reminded us that Jesus said, “Let the children come unto me.” The wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ is designed for children too. Every Sunday in the early years, the little fledgling group was prepared for any children who came. Now in 2006, each Sunday and throughout the week our facility is a place where children are welcomed, loved, and nurtured. Barbara spoke passionately in support of church school and Kids’ Connection and asked for people to serve Christ by helping out one afternoon a week.

Rich spoke of how each person in the church has a unique perspective when “looking into a church’s life.” He fondly remembered Wayne Wonacott’s ability to “lift the roof” of a church and see the big picture. Just as Wayne passed his Christian wisdom on in helping launch Big Bear Presbyterian Church, Rich relishes seeing the wisdom of giving, loving, and caring to be passed on to another generation.

The subject of Cassy’s memories focused on music. She remembered how 8-9 years ago, “praise music” felt uncomfortable and strange to the congregation. Today’s congregation sings this kind of music with enthusiasm. In Charter Sunday worship service when she sang her solo, “Thy Word,” and invited the congregation to sing along, worshippers joined in eagerly. She pointed out that people in last Sunday’s service knew the words. To her, this demonstrated how worshippers could move from unfamiliar and strange to familiar and accepted. She ended her talk with her dream for this church of being a church with a calendar packed with weddings.

Big Bear Presbyterian Church has come far because the dedication of its founders still lives in its members today. That same dedication and love for Christ will lead it into the future.

Blessings on you all,

~ Pastor Paul

***********
NOTE: Please E-Mail any issues regarding this page to:
pcbbwebmstr@gmail.com
***********
